Stinson's Gemcutting - What's New

What's New

First, Thanks to all of our service men and women, and your family, for your bravery and personal sacrifices. A special Thank You to friends and acquaintences who are in the military service. I was in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict and have a small idea of the hardships that some endure in service to our great country. God Bless the USA.
A word to the wise: Watch out for deals on watches and gems while overseas. There are many deals to be sure, but just as many return with goods that are imitations or have been way overpriced.

We sincerely appreciate your business.Thank You! We have a Paypal account for customers wishing to use that and Paypal will now take most credit cards. I have just been notified that a rutilated quartz gem I cut for Reagan's Jewelers has won First Place in the 2009 Jewelers of America competition in New York. Thanks Reagan's!

A GEM FROM HEAVEN I have a partner who found a meteorite with crystals of peridot large enough to facet. One of the rarest meteorites is called a pallasite and contains peridot crystals mixed in solid iron. Scientists tell us that pallasites are approx. FIVE BILLION years old; they were formed at the beginning of our solar system! Only a very small number (I'd guess less than 25) extraterrestrial peridot gems have ever been cut. They are among the rarest of rare gems. Besides the obvious rare source, the extraterrestrial peridot is usually so fractured that it is next to impossible to find a crystal clean and large enough to facet. I have recovered and cut a couple of fine gems from the meteoric peridot!! These are truly gems from heaven! Each gem will come with certificates of authenticity as well as a GIA laboratory and GEM Art Lab cert on nomenclature and authenticity. Please inquire for available stones. More information on the meteorite page.

METEORITES

I am an Eastwind Diamond Abrasives dealer. I use their belts, pads and diamond powder. Eastwind is an American manufacturer of premium diamond products. I switched to diamond belts in the 80's and I think Eastwind's products are superior. I have discounts for volume orders.
I am also cutting/stocking faceted red beryl gems. This is the premium color and clarity hydrothermally lab grown crystals. Give me a call or email for a quote on this beautiful and rare species if you don't see what you are looking for on the red beryl page.
Beware of natural red beryl faceted gems that are being filled and sold without proper disclosure!! The dealer(s) selling these treated stones, are only saying the stone has been "pressure treated". That means some oil, epoxy or resin is forced into the stone's cracks under pressure. This kind of treatment usually improves the clarity of a stone and can cause a substantial price increase. Trouble is that it is NOT a permanent treatment and is reversable. As long as the buyer is made fully aware of this treatment I have no problem. The lab grown gems I sell have not been treated, enhanced, coated, diffused or treated in any way.

Keep both eyes open especially if you:
1. Are on a cruise and looking to buy gems on board or on shore. Unfortunately there are a lot of overpriced goods people buy when they are on vacation.
2. Are thinking about buying red topaz. It's most likely coated and not a permanent treatment.
3. Are going to insure your gems. Check with your insurance company to see if they will let you replace a lost or stolen item from the same jeweler you bought from and you want them to do the replacement work. If your insurance company is not willing to work with/for you, replacing an item can be a real mess!

Please email us if you have any questions. stinsons@gemservice.com The studio is open form 10AM until 5PM central time, Monday through Friday.
